Detour
Saturday - Lent Day 4 - Psalm 18:1-2 I
love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my
deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield
and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Saturday night as I headed over to a friend's house, I got on one parkway and drove past one exit before I was heading to another parkway. Long before I got to the other parkway, I could see that the traffic was backed up and was only getting worse. Immediately, I thought I would visualize a clear path to my destination and work with God to make it happen. The car in front of me found a paved section that connected our on ramp to the opposite off ramp. I thought about it following, but couldn't figure out how I would get where I was going. I couldn't imagine that this detour would help me. Two seconds later, my opportunity for escape had passed and I was stuck in some stuff. Fortunately, God was still with me even if my trip was going to take 5 times as long.
Was this symbolic of other experiences? Probably. If God has a way to deliver me today and I have to see the plan all the way to the end, I will undoubtedly miss out. Even though I only need mustard seed faith to move mountains (Matthew 17:20), I have to receive what God has in store for me. Fortunately, if I insist on taking the slow path, God will still be with me. God is surely my rock and deliverer.
