Focus & Perseverance

Hebrews 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

I watched Venus and Serena play most of their Wimbledon matches and it seems to me that they both have an incredible focus and determination.  I must say that I was expecting Serena to beat Justine Henin because of how she won against Daniela Hantuchova.  In the Hantuchova match, Serena had a leg cramp that required medical attention.  Serena was fortunate enough to have a rain delay to give her extra time.  Serena had to fight just to lose the second set in a long tiebreak.  There was definitely drama, but at no point did it seem that Serena doubt that she would win.  Winning required her every effort and all of her focus.

Venus has the same determination and steps up her game.  While many think that her work on the court was inconsistent, she did exactly what she needed to do.  Obviously, she has the physical ability.  It is the mental mind set that gives her the advantage. One of the commentators said, "This is all about nerves."  She demonstrated that she had the nerves while I typed this she successfully put away Svetlana Kuznetsova in two sets 6-3, 6-4.

When we're working toward a goal and it might seem that we're down and that there is a great deal of work that we have to do to win, we need to remember for focus on Jesus.  Our partnership with the Lord will empower us through the difficult moments.  Even though we might prefer it to be easy, God will be with us as we do the hard work.
