A Little Change

2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.

My Wednesday Gym classes were lead by someone else today.  While I was used to the routine of the Wednesday schedule, I was fine with a little change.  I thought I knew what the substitute was going to do.  I really figured that this would be a challenging day with little perspiration because this instructor doesn't teach kickboxing, which is half of the normal Wednesday workout.  I was so wrong.  This was a big change.  It was very challenging and there was a great deal of perspiration all from the strength-training portion.

Our sub took us rapidly took us through a series of circuits.  The first time we spent 30 seconds at each station, the second time it was 45 seconds and the last was a full minute.  When we started the last series, I wasn't convinced that I would get through each of those stations and do 60 seconds of work.  We're only talking about 60 seconds, but each and every second at some stations was challenging.  The interesting part is that the physical challenge is second to the mental challenge.  My body could get through the workout only when my mind directed it.  Of course, there may be times when I may reach my physical limitations, but this was not such an occasion.

If my mind is the key and controls my body, I need to make sure I work on my mind and I need to constantly renew my minds as Romans 12:2 tells us.  (Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.)  During the workout, from one second to the next, I need to remind myself what the goal is and to seek the strength to continue.  In order to reach the end, I need to put each second into the past as soon as it is over and focus on getting through the next.  Sounds like Philippians 3:13-14 to me.  (Philippians 3:13-14 13Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.)  Ultimately, my prize is bigger than completing this one workout.  On my journey for Divine Health, I need to always press for the goal and remember my source.  Sometimes what we expect as a little change can be a big positive one in more ways than we expect.
