Building Faith on the Road

I've been listening to tapes and CDs of Sunday service as I drive around. I've been doing this for awhile on long drives and recently added short drives to the mix. I will listen to the same message a few times in a row. It is interesting to me that I hear and learn different than the time before. On my long trips, I will listen to one message and then another. Sometimes, I'm surprised at the connections between the messages. This includes messages from different people at different churches. I guess I really shouldn't be surprised because the Word never contradicts itself.

This listening while riding is a great faith building exercise. Romans 10:17 (So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. KJV) lets us know that we need to hear the word. While I'm more familiar with the King James Version, the NIV connects me more with my driving adventure. (Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. NIV)

Truly, God's word remains the same and we change. We can take advantage of these types of opportunities to help us build our faith in order that we step out and do the work God calls us to do. Faith is to lead us to action. James 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
