More Than I Need

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

The concept of self-sacrifice sometimes completely escapes me, particularly when it comes to restraining my eating.  Don't get me wrong, I understand what I should do, but there are moments when I simply give into my momentary want.  Just last night, I had different 3 low-calorie desserts.  I bought them all to help with my eating plan and any individually would have been fine, but eating 3 was just unnecessary excess.  It did taste good, but could I have done without all 3.  Definitely, yes.  I was just on a roll and ate one right after the other.

I should take myself off automatic pilot and take control of every situation.  As Christians, we know that we are to walk in a life of self-control as well as self-sacrifice as Luke 9:23 directs us. (Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.)  My 3 low-calorie desserts didn't have a tremendous negative impact on my diet for the day, but working on the small things will help me develop for the bigger things.
