Be Ready

Ephesians 6:10-11 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.

You have to be prepared.  When you think all is well, suddenly, there is something in your path that is trying to deter you.  To give yourself the best opportunity for success, you need to be ready.  How should you get ready?  Start the day with prayer and the Word.  A daily focus on God not only gets you in tune with God, it reminds you that God is always there ready to partner with you in your every move.

As you prepare your daily diet, being ready may mean deciding what to eat in advance and taking something with you for moments when you are suddenly without healthy options.  Fruit is a great choice that travels well. Nutrition bars can be another good option.  You do want to read the label before purchasing.  A bar without valuable nutrition is simply a dressed up candy bar.  Look for one with protein and fiber.  Protein and fiber are necessary parts of your diet and will help you fill satisfied longer than those without.  Think of the bar as a part of your daily intake, rather than an extra.

Daily protein requirements are:
  • 40 grams/day for females
  • 55-70 grams/day or 0.8 grams/kg body weight for males
The recommended daily allowance of fiber is 25 grams.  The terms below describe those with increased fiber:
  • High fiber: 5 g or more per serving
  • Good source of fiber: 2.5 g to 4.9 g per serving
  • More or added fiber: At least 2.5 g more per serving than the reference food
