Be Strong And Courageous
Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
Church was good today. Moments after the benidiction, my phone rang. I didn't manage to answer, but called my roommate back within 2 minutes. She let me know that my basement was an inch deep in water and that she could hear a water spraying sound that was much like a heavy hiss. Immediately, my plans changed. I had to take a moment to think and make a plan while I did a couple of things at church.
I got in my car and called my plumber. He couldn't come today. He was out of town. My next move after leaving church was to stop by my parents house and pick up the wet vac and some water proof boots. My mind was racing as I drove to my house. There was one thought, then the next. Often there was no real connection between them. I was hoping my friend was exaggerating. The damage could cost me thousands. The hot water heater was probably busted. There goes my savings plan. Where is the water shut off valve?
As I drove, I turned on the radio for a little gospel music to quiet the noise in my head. I also reflected on the Sunday School lesson. The focus for the day was Joshua and the Isrealites crossing the Jordan. At one point, the teacher commented on the fact that the Isrealites had this obstacle of water in front of them that they didn't know how they were going to get pass and God made a plan and got them to the other side. There was some comfort even as I traveled to the unknown that I would get to the other side of this mess. God would help me through and that knowledge helps to calm my spirit and reduce stress.
The basement was at least an inch deep in water. I made calls and more calls. I couldn't figure out where the shut off valve was. My father suggested I open of the wall and try to slow the leak, if I could cut the water supply. Moments before the plumber arrived, I had exposed the leak. He was surprised to hear that I put a hole in the wall. I was a little proud that I was able to act. Another plumber will have to come to finish the job tommorrow. Fortunately, most of the water is now down the drain. While my work-out plan for the day didn't happen, I got plenty of upper body work as I pushed the mop across the floor. I even tried to balance my effort with my right hand and then my left. I know the Lord is with me wherever I am. And no problem is too big or too small for God.
