Let Me Eat Cake

Revelation 2:19 I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.

I went to a work lunch yesterday.  It was a major event with tons of folks from various departments.  When it was time to get on the buffet line for our meal, I never pass up an opportunity to be first on the line.  Really, I truly appreciate getting my food before anyone picks over the food or breaths over the food.  Another benefit is that I don't have to be disappointed that something I want has run out, leaving me to stand around waiting for a refill.

Torta Viagra CkbyRobertaFAs I went through this line, I made some very good healthy choices...until, I got to the dessert.  There were 5 or 6 cakes on the table at the end.  They were all beautiful and looked as if they should taste great.  The chocolate cake with vanilla icing had my name on it.  The first slice was for me.  In an effort to share my high calorie joy, I helped several others get their very own slices.  I might as well help those around me experience what was going to be a fabulous desert.

The healthy lunch was good and I wasted little time getting to the cake.  As I ate it, I analyzed the cake with each bite.  I thought this is not the best chocolate cake I had.  It wasn't really high on my list of good chocolate cakes.  It was really moist, but it lacked flavor.  One of my table mates and I began discussing good chocolate cakes and it confirmed that this one didn't rate.  Then I bit into a glob of that white icing.  It felt like a tasteless mound of fat.  I was finally convinced to leave the cake alone.  Fortunately, I hadn't eaten half.  If I thought about this as a waste and waist of calories earlier on, I could have saved myself a hundred or so other calories.

Note to self for next time:  If you can't stay away from the desert, make sure it is really good.  After all, I should be able to eat cake sometime.

cannot have your cake and eat it too.A friend called on me to help one of their family members get help from drug abuse.I put the person up for the night and took them to a rehab the next morning. That person wanted me to bring their bag to the place for them.I serched the bag first, and found a crack pipe inside, filled with drugs.I took the pipe and drugs and threw both down a sewer.Every time i would pass that spot, those bad things would call out to me.It would say to me,come get me, come get me.People, places, things sources and habits have voices. Not just people. In the ABC's of how to achieve your dreams,Avoid is the very first word. Those that fail to remember, are doomed to repeat.R.L.J.

Thanks for the reply.  I do think in the case of your story, you cannot have both.  Illegal drugs are in their own category.  In the case of cake, if we manage our moderation we can be disciplined and indulge.  Never should we each an entire cake, however, we can pay attention to our entire intake and exercise and have a few non-nutritional calories.  If cake triggers an overeating spree, much like a drug addict's first hit, then staying away is best.
