Running Scared

2 Samuel 18:26 Then the watchman saw another man running, and he called down to the gatekeeper, "Look, another man running alone!" The king said, "He must be bringing good news, too."

File:Lightnings sequence 2 animation.gifI went running a couple of days ago.  I hadn't checked the weather.  I did speak to a friend that lives in a state a south of mine and new that there were strong thunder storms in her area.  It did occur to me that I might get those same storms.  Afterall, this has been one of the most rainy summers that I can remember.  As I headed out the skys were clear, the clouds fluffly, white and scatter across the sky.

It didn't talk long on my path for me to notice some darker clouds in the distance.  I figured that I would have to cut the run short, but kept on running.  Then I heard some thunder and quickly altered my plan and turned around to head for home.  The thunder wasn't really an issue for me.  The lighting that usually accompanies it was.  Shortly after I turned around, I saw the first flash in the distance.  The road were I was running was lined with trees along larger portions with large patches covered only with short grass.  Running next to those short grass sections was a serious concern for me.  Clearly, I would be a lightning target.

As I sped up my pace, I could hear and see the storm getting closer.  Just as I entered the short grassy area, a birght flash and loud crack appeared in what seemed like 100 yards away from me.  Instantly, I was sprinting until I couldn't sprint anymore.  By then, there were trees nearby and I was close to my house.  I quickly caught my breadth and started sprinting again.  Praise the Lord, I made it safely.

I did get a more intense workout than I had planned and my body served me well.  My imperfect body served me perfectly in this portion of my journey.  On this day, I was delivered from the elements.  Even though I had to face my fears and fight through,  I won the fight.  The Lord delivered me from one enemy and will deliver me from others.

2 Samuel 18:31 Then the Cushite arrived and said, "My lord the king, hear the good news! The LORD has delivered you today from all who rose up against you."
