One Pound At A Time

James 2:18 But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds."  Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

Did you happen to see David Smith on TV today?  He was the 650-pound virgin who lost 410 pounds.  He was everywhere, the Today Show and Access Hollywood to name just two.  This was all part of his promotional tour to promote the TLC documentary that premieres Sunday, July 12th.  Undoubtedly, it will be a dramatic story.  The 3-minute segment that Matt hosted certainly was.

The key to the story was that he determined to change his situation and reached out to get help.  He knew he couldn't do it alone and he had to find someone who knew more than he did and who could be committed to moving David toward the goal.  After he decided to transform himself, he got to work.  He changed both his diet and began to exercise under the direction of his personal trainer, Chris Powell.

Chris' plan was to make small changes along the way.  Baby steps got bigger until they became giant steps David was 410 pounds lighter.  In addition to the diet and exercise, David had a few surgeries to remove the stretched out skin.  He mentioned that there are 2 or 3 more surgeries in his future.  He seems committed to act on that as well.

Most of us don't have 410 pounds to lose.  Even if you do, it can be done with faith, help and action.  There will be a great deal of work to get to the goal.
