Memory Food

Job 38:36 Who endowed the heart with wisdom or gave understanding to the mind?

While waiting to be seen for an appointment, I read a little box that declared that a low carb or no carb diet may impair memory.  Immediately, I thought that might be why I have trouble remembering names.  There are times when I forget someone's name only seconds after the name hits my ears.  Then there are other times, name that I've known for years just won't come to me when I need to say them.

I wanted to read more than the little box to confirm my findings.  So, I hunted on line.  So many sites mentioned this new study.  I finally found that this was a
Tufts project.  Basically, the low-carb participants had more difficulty with memory related tasks than those on other types of diets.  The major differences between the two groups was the confusion experienced by the low carb followers.

The rationale is that glucose is brain food and that your body doesn't store glucose.  Therefore, when you don't eat enough, you don't have enough and you get a brain fog.

The specifics of this project could be a bit more detailed.  One commenter on
ScientificBlogging.com  brought up a number of questions that I wondered about.  How restricted were the dieters?  Who funded this study?  Where different glycemic levels studied?  Why only women?

Even with all of these questions, I was ready to buy this rationale.  I changed my mind when I realized that I talk about eating a low-card diet, but I eat more carbs than some who think they are on a high-carb diet.  I needed to check myself as I headed for a little carb laden treat.
What I really need to do is consider is what is the best overall diet for every day.  It seems the message is the same for the brain as for everything else.  We need to eat brain food.  I found a few sites that discuss this and
The Thinking Business details brain food as protein, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins and minerals.  Sounds like the same stuff I need for any diet.  I guess we knew this all the time.

The question is what are we going to do with this knowledge.  Are we going to seek wisdom?  If we do seek this gift from God, will we apply it.  There are some days that I do better than others and I'm planning to continue to build on the positive steps of the week and have success all through the weekend.

As I feed my brain, exercise and get adequate rest, I can work on remembering all the names I need.  The whole plan is my memory food.
