Running The Race

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

This Sunday, I ran a 5K.  I wasn't really prepared for the race.  I did it anyway.  I didn't actually run every step of the race.  There were periods where I walked.  I didn't feel bad about walking.  In fact, it was part of my strategy.
Jeff Galloway has a marathon training program where you run a mile and walk a minute for all 26.1 miles.  This method helps you to be injury free and faster.  Just think that your average speed increases when you have a little break before you feel completely broken down.  The break you have helps to re-energize and propels you on closer to the goal.  I find that it is also a mental break.  Sometimes, pushing is just too much.  When I decide that restarting is fine, I can do it with ease.

I got out there on Sunday and ran knowing I wasn't quite ready.  I was a little unsure of how I would do and knew that I would be exposing myself to others...mostly strangers.  One thing I knew for sure, I was going to finish.  This was a race I had planned to conquer despite the lack of training, the sun gleaming in my eyes and the heat.  The crowd of witnesses helped to move me forward.  Hopefully, I was helpful to others.

This little race is a symbol of a larger one.  I plan on winning that one too.  I don't know exactly how I'll do it.  I'll probably walk a few stretches and start running again...and then probably walk some more.  One thing I know for certain, I'll finish this race with support of other witnesses.  My plan includes helping others along my way.
