Food Pushers

1 Corinthians 10:24 Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

I've noticed this trend.  People want to force others to eat more food.  I just don't get it.  Let me tell you my latest experience.  I was at a corporate dinner sitting between two friendly guys.  The lemon cake was on the table in serving size portions at each setting.  As the main course was taken away, the guy to my left asked if I were going to eat the cake.  Since it wasn't chocolate or ice cream, I wasn't really interested.  The guy on the left consulted with the guy on the right and they determined that it was fine for me to eat the cake and I should try it.  Really, I should eat the empty calories of this cake event hough I could easily pass it up.

The food peer pressure was out of control and eventually I tried the cake.  It was tasty, but it didn't motivate me to eat the whole thing.  I did eat more when I became bored by the whole event and the cake was simply in the perfect place.  Fortunately, I exercised some restraint and had room for the chocolate dessert at the post event party.

I've noticed this food pusher attitude with others.  At group gatherings, someone -- who is probably eating less -- makes a suggestion or recommendation on what fat filled item others should eat.  Mothers everywhere act as if full grown adults can't determine if they've have enough to eat.  Who hasn't heard, "Do you want some more?  Have some more?  Are you sure you've had enough?"

It is a conspiracy that promotes bad eating habits.  I know it makes some feel good to know that others are well satisfied.  However, can we feel good if we've helped others eat better and improve their health.  Then again...I don't want the food monitors telling me that I shouldn't eat what is if front of me and that I'm determined to eat.

Oh well,  I'll have to see the good food of others in different ways.

As one kind of food is to the body, the other is to the spirit. We can choose certain moments in time to just educate others about something new. There are certain things i thought i'd never ever try.Once i did the rest became history.Like the time i first digested God's word.It was very very good.Teaching moments are always in front of us even if it does look like cake.

True.  Teaching moments do appear in front of us often.  We also need to remind ourselves to stay on course when those around us would lead us astray...even when it is not their intent.
