Dieting Joyfully

Genesis 9:3 Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

On Good Morning America today, Dan Buettner discussed what people who lived very long ate that contributed to reaching old age.  He was focused on eating
breakfast for a longer life.  I was happy to hear that one of the breakfast options was a blueberry smoothie using frozen blueberries.   I have breakfast smoothies regularly.  Mine are typcially blueberries and bananas.  I buy the blueberries frozen and cut up the bananas and stick them in the freezer.  Buettner suggests using honey in the smootie as a better sweetner than sugar.  I never add a sweeter to my smoothies.  Perhaps, the bananas add enough sweetning on their own.  I do put other fruit in on occassion.  Last week, I threw in some very ripe watermelon.  While I really didn't taste any watermelon flavor, my smoothie was very sweet and flavorful.

If you remember, I started a
10-dayeating plan that focused on eating fruit, vegetables and fish.  My blueberry/banana smoothie was a staple of my breakfast.  I did have a simple bowl of fresh fruit on a couple of mornings, but mostly it was my smoothie.  Since the 10 days have passed, I'm still following this eating plan pretty closely.  It is not as if I'm forcing myself to do so.  It has been relatively easy to eat fruit for breakfast, salad, for lunch and salad, cooked vegetables and fish for dinner.  The fruit snacks during the day are needed and great for me.  My fiber intake must be more than the 25 grams recommended each day.  I so need to get all my fiber, if you know what I mean.

Dan Buettner has a
6 weeks to longevity project that we'll have to check out.  It is sponsored by AARP.  It might be useful as we continue on our Gospel Fit journey.  I'll have to report back when I read about it closely.  My goal is to continue to diet joyfully.
