Stepping Off The Plateau

Hebrews 6:15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

Biggest Loser Week 7 did not disappoint.  There is always drama during the challenges and tension when the participants make the decision to send  on of their own home.  Yet each week, the show brings us something new.  This week Abby threw herself on the sword and requested that her team send her home.  Coach Mo had asked his team to do the same thing a few weeks ago, however, he felt his injuries and slowed weight loss were hurting his team.  Abby had a completely different perspective.

PhotoIf you've been watching the show, you know that Abby's greatest life challenge was the loss of her husband and two children through a car accident.  It is after experiencing that tragedy that she began to gain weight.  She was really on the worst plateau of her life before coming to the Biggest Loser and was looking to start living life again.

It would be easy for to understand if the team decided to keep Abby on the ranch and to send Daniel home.  During the week's weigh-in, Daniel once again seemed stuck and only lost 5 pounds.  (On the Biggest Loser Ranch, his 5 pounds is positioned as a disappointment.  Really, 5 pounds in a week is great for most of us on the planet.)  From the Biggest Loser perspective Daniel seems stuck on some sort of plateau which makes him a less than ideal teammate.

The team decided to follow Abby's request and home she went.  Not simply to continue to lose weight, but to step off her life plateau and start living again.  Yes, she's lost more weight.  She's at a total of 80 pounds as of the last show and has also begun motivational speaking on the topic of never giving up and choosing how you live your life.  Her selfless act may help Daniel off of his sort of weight-loss plateau and be inspiring to those of us who feel we've been doing all the right things, but not heading in the right direction.  I'm counting on them both to make continued progress.
